Still waiting..

by Dogma
(London)

Hi there,

I guess most of you are fairly fit but at 16 stone aged 40 I'm certainly not.

A friend of mine ran the London Marathon in just under four hours this year - five months previously he had not run before.

This inspired me to try and get fit and lose a little weight at the same time. My first run was truly hell, although I did manage 2 miles (I got lost hence the 2 miles!). A few days later I tried again and found it harder, but for the next two weeks I ran three times a week and although the running still hurt, recovery afterwards was far far better.

Its now three weeks later and I've now running 3-4 miles three times a week. OK I know thats not a lot to most of you guys but it is to me. The best bit is the feeling straight afterwards - A high I guess. Oh and a few beers..

I have now entered my first EVER race - a 5K run in the summer and although nervous I cant wait. I now get grumpy if its been a few days and I haven't been for a run!

Best of luck to all you new starters like me - it does get easier !

Well Done Dogma
by: Eleni

Hi Dogma,

Your strength and determination and sparkle comes from the inside. We all need a starting point for whatever we do in life. The inspiration from your friend's achievement gave you the opportunity to make it your own and in turn inspire others. This is what matters in running. I believe we are all unique individuals and the beautiful thing with running is that we come together in union to inspire, support each other but also achieve more and more and celebrate together. You are just in the beginning of your running journey with much more to come. Enjoy the experience and Good Luck your first race. You are going to Love It!

Best Regards
Lady Hermes (This is my running ID)
