GOOD TO GO

by Becca Jones
(Jackson, TN)

RUNNING has been good to this gal. For the past 4 years, I have said, "I don't know if I run to live or live to run". I do love running, and perhaps, it is the reason I just celebrated a healthy 59th birthday.

Rolling out of a warm comfortable bed at 5 a.m. every weekday morning, I sometimes wonder why I run. I sleepily grab my running clothes, pull them on, do a quick warm-up, and get ready to hit the pavement. As soon as I open the door, smell the fresh cut grass, stare into the rising sun, any wonder to my question slowly wanes. What better way to start the day! It's a feeling that's hard to describe...kind of like "I can tackle the world".

In addition to the great health benefits, I owe my optimistic outlook on life to my running. Running gives me a reason to get up every day, to face unknown obstacles, and to have determination and confidence in myself.

I plan to run as long as God gives me the ability. I haven't found one reason NOT to run. My husband and I run a 5K every weekend. I love the competition but my biggest competitor is myself.

It feels good when people encourage me to keep running and tell me I inspire them.
